Has the season started? Judging by the massive opening to Japan it definitely has. The band opened at around 2pm in the afternoon and remained producing scores of Japanese, Korean and the odd Chinese stations until 11pm! That is 9 solid hours of fun. Once again, the most northern VK4s were in favour, but even stations in NSW, Victoria and South Australia had their share of the action.
And not only the band was on fire, but some Japanese were decoded with an snr of +30. Super loud, even for SSB.
Great news is, the radio winter is behind us, and with every longer day, there will be more massive openings on 15, 10 and 6m bands.
As I type this, N5J is still on air, but not for very long. According to the online log, so far, they’ve made over 77,000 contacts. More than 100 Australian chasers have worked them on at least 6 bands slot. For us, Jarvis was an easy one.
Great time to be a ham!
