A friend of mine just sent me the above photos. He had a problem to solve: as you are well aware, during the contest weekend, the 40m SSB band in Europe is a bloodbath. Keeping a clear frequency is almost impossible. He is running a monoband full size yagi sitting on top of a 36m tower which makes him loud everywhere – except in Europe. Solution: installing another 3 element full size yagi at a height of only 15m above ground. At that height, the angle is just right to keep his fellow Europeans away.
Of course, if needed, both yagis could be also coupled for a bit more gain, when needed.
“Should have it done last season,” he said.
And here we are, Rob and I, struggling to get the lightweight 6m beam five metres above the ground, agonising over the cost of galvanised pipe and a bit of timber…
