It’s good, it’s Honda

Honda has been in the generators business since the 1980s. Today it is regarded as a leader in the field – especially in a small, portable, quiet, and reliable domestic generators. No wonder, a first choice for many radio amateurs who love their portable work.

If you follow the CY9C expedition on Facebook then you must have seen a nice line of Honda 2200i generators. They will be powering up 4O3A Power Genius amplifiers. The setup is a classic field day tent operation, no mains on St Paul Island!

The EU2200i is a 2.2KW unit. Earlier today I made a quick call to a couple of Honda service centres to find if the EU2200i is still in production, and is it fully serviceable if and when needed? Yes to all. With a note that in Australia this model is known as EU22i because it is a 240V version.

Amateurs love EU22i for two reasons: it is probably the ‘RF cleanest’ portable generator on the market. Also like all Honda gensets, two units could be paralleled for more output power (as long as they are the same model).
