“On or around May 12, 2024, ARRL was the victim of a sophisticated network attack by a malicious international cyber group. ARRL immediately involved the FBI and engaged with third party experts to investigate.
This serious incident was extensive and categorized by the FBI as “unique,” compromising network devices, servers, cloud-based systems, and PCs.”
Why would an ‘international cyber group’ mount an attack on a non-for-profit online logbook is still a mystery. To hack both the hardware and software, physical computers as well as cloud-based system would require serious resources. All that knowing upfront that QSO data has literally zero value to anyone. The FBI agent: “So once again, what exactly is a QSO?” LOL.
The LoTW has been down for almost a month and there is not the slightest indication that the system will be restored any time soon.
So I am back to good, old-fashioned paper cards. Keeping the postal workers around the globe busy!
