Getting into CY9C St Pauls expedition log was much easier than originally anticipated. For a few reasons: First, the team instantly delivered what they’ve promised. To be on the air, with multiple stations, on time. They are loud – a proof they know what it takes to establish a complex multi-operator radio setup on a remote island. Also, their on-air performance, the fine skill of making lots of contacts fast – is impeccable. They are ham pros.
Of course, we are lucky that the ionosphere is cooperative too. With high HF bands wide open, many Australian chasers have already netted this rare one on three or four bands. And they are yet to deploy low band antennas! Working them on 30m and 40m will be just a matter of timing and persistence, but even 80m is a strong possibility. Whether they will be able to erect a tall 160m vertical under that constant wind is yet to be seen; we certainly hope so. As always: Safety first.
Again, hats off to CY9C team. We are happy and grateful.
